Ties To Die For

You can't always get away with jeans and a t-shirt but that's no reason to look like a square for every occasion that a tie is required. You can give your dressier look an edge with these stiched ties by Angel Eyes. This artist does custom made ties for around $25-$35.00 The website has examples of her work but you can request a design that suits your own taste and interests.

Dinner for Two

Before you consider inviting the cutie you've been wooing over for dinner at your place, you've got to ask yourself, is my dining space equipped to impress? If you're considering paper napkins and plastic sporks you stole from the office cafeteria, please reconsider. A little style can go a long way towards making an impression. That's why I love this placemat/napkin set by Nettie. The rich chocolate color will be a perfect compliment to your masculine decor and the chic print lets your dates know you have excellent taste.

(Knick) Knack for Style

I will tell you right now, I hate knick knacks. Nothing screams granny decor like those ugly Faberge eggs and Franklin Mint figurines. That said, I noticed my living room bookshelves looked a little bare when I moved into my new house last year. That's when I discovered the joy of small sculptures and fell in love with Papafork's cutlery based pieces. They're sleek and contemporary looking enough to add some panache to your home without making it look like your mother helped you decorate. Papafork's subjects include robots, bulls, frogs, bugs and motorcycles -- nothing girlie here. At an average price of around $35.00, couldn't your bookshelf or mantle use a little art?

Bang!

While screen printing on tees might be the norm, it's not the order of the day with electronshellS. This artist combines dressier shirts with design usually reserved for a more casual garments. The result is shirts that are nice enough to wear on a date but still cool looking enough not to make you look like you just left the office. My favorite is this button down with the gunman on the back and the bullet hole in the front of the neck tie.

Couture

Overlooked vintage pieces get new life at the hands of artist Danny Mansmith. At his Etsy store you'll find a wide selection of altered men's shirts. Says Mansmith, "I see clothing as sculpture and art, and by experimenting and using mistakes that happen I sew together patch worked pieces of fabric to make up garments that I think appear to be more like sculpture or art rather than just a garment." When art meets fashion you get one-of-a-kind pieces.

Throw pillows are an easy way to take your apartment from dorm room to swanky pad. I especially like this one by Pillowhead. The neutral colors will go with your living room or bedroom regardless of your color scheme and the geeky chic is sure to amuse your buddies, at least some of the nerdier ones.
